City Rebate Programs for Basement Flood Protection

If you’re a homeowner in the Greater Toronto Area, you may be eligible for generous rebates to help cover the cost of flood protection systems like sump pumps, backwater valves, and weeping tile disconnections. We’ve outlined the key programs available in Toronto, Mississauga, and Peel Region to make it easy for you to take the next step.

 Toronto – Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program

The City of Toronto offers up to $3,400 per home to support the installation of flood prevention systems.

Eligible Work Includes:

  • Backwater Valve – up to $1,250

  • Sump Pump – up to $1,750

  • Weeping Tile Disconnection – up to $400

Basic Requirements:

  • You must own a single-family, duplex, triplex, or fourplex home.

  • Work must be done by a licensed plumber and pass city inspection.

  • Applications must be submitted within one year of the work being completed.

 Mississauga – Basement Flooding Prevention Rebate

Mississauga’s rebate program offers up to $7,500 to help residents protect their homes.

Rebate Highlights:

  • ✅ Sump Pump – up to $6,000

  • ✅ Weeping Tile Capping – up to $1,000

  • ✅ Downspout Disconnection – $125 each (max $500)

  • ✅ Storm Lateral Backwater Valve – up to $1,500

Who’s Eligible:

  • Property owners of detached, semi-detached, duplexes, or townhomes.

  • No outstanding property taxes or bylaw infractions.

  • Retroactive rebates available for recent work, but some jobs now require pre-approval.

 Peel Region – Backwater Valve Rebate Program

Peel Region provides up to $1,500 to help homeowners install a sanitary backwater valve.

Key Details:

  • Homeowners must have experienced sewer backup flooding.

  • Must hire a licensed plumber and get the appropriate permits.

  • Downspout disconnection or waiver is required.

  • Original invoices and proof of payment must be submitted with the application.
